Over thirty-five years ago, a group of graduates of Voorhees College started the Charleston Alumni Chapter of Voorhees College. Some of their goals were to support the college financially, recruit students for the college, and to have a working relationship with the administration and staff at the college. They worked hard and their goals were achieved. The Charleston Alumni Chapter of Voorhees College has had very efficient presidents to serve the organization. One of the first presidents was Mr. Fred Tolbert, who worked with the chapter until his health failed him. Some of the other presidents have been Mr. David Wilkins, Mr. Charles Dingle, Ms. Christine Frazier, Mr. Rufus Sweat, Mrs. Marvette Smalls, Mr. Dan Martin, who is now our National President, and our current president Mr. John Dunmeyer III.

Through the years, the Charleston Alumni Chapter of Voorhees has grown in membership. The members continue to work for the college and support our dear Voorhees in various ways.

The Charleston Alumni Chapter of Voorhees College members will always work to foster the vision our our founder, Mrs. Evelyn Elizabeth Wright. Even though more than thirty years have passed since the chapter was started, our work for Voorhees College continues, and we thank God for all that He has done for our Chapter and for our beloved, dear Voorhees.
